The Lawrences moved from Pontiac with their only daughter, Mary, in 1939. A large four-bay garage/workshop was built on the back of the property in 1939, a year before the house was added.

The current owner, Michele Flowers, has only been in residence for one year. Ms. Flowers stresses that the house is a ”work in progress.” The bathroom upstairs was fully remodeled; flooring has been laid in the basement; and note the extensive workroom on the second floor.

Miss Mary, with her love of books became a member of the Ladies Library Association and helped form the first library in Milford in March, 1895.  Over 300 volumes were collected and housed in the home of Mrs. D. W. Wells until 1905. For the fee of $1 per year, you could borrow one book per week.

803 Atlantic -Meachum – Delonge - 1868

Henry E. Meachum, a carpenter and joiner, built this early Victorian style home for his wife Amanda Esther Smith Meachum, her parents Nathan and Lucinda Smith and their children.

Henry came to Michigan, from Tompkins County, New York, in 1864, with his wife, in-laws, and one daughter, Mary.  At least four other children were born in Michigan. His talents as a carpenter were put to good use in Milford’s growing community.

Henry died in 1899, and Amanda remained in the family home until her death in 1917.

B.F. Howland ran the lumberyard on West Liberty Street with his partner Larkin. After an extensive fire destroyed part of Main Street, he built a block of four brick stores from 301-309 N. Main St. Howland was also co-owner of the dried apple factory on the SW corner of Huron and South Main St.

This 1581 sq. ft. story and ½ Cape Cod Revival was built in by Walter C. Tressler, a local building contractor and his two sons Walter and Charles.

Another house with a ghost – unseen, but often heard through broken music boxes playing in the night, door bells that ring when the power is off,  doors that swing open and tarps that move.
